Gil Meyerowitz
"Born December 10, 1922, in Brooklyn, New York, Gil recently passed away at the age of 100 after a lifetime of service to his country, the plumbing industry, and his beloved family."
"Gil's journey into the plumbing supply industry began with his father, Michael Meyerowitz, who started M. Meyerowitz & Sons in 1917. As a young boy, Gil worked alongside his father learning the business. In his senior year of High School, Gil experienced a life-threatening health scare when his appendix burst. This near-death experience led him to work full-time with his dad and older brother Gus, at Meyerowitz & Sons."
"When World War II broke out, Gil and his brother went to war, while their father ran the business. Tragically, both Michael and Gus passed away during this time, leaving Gil to carry on the family business alone. Undeterred by the challenges that lie ahead, Gil rose to the occasion. He changed the company name to Gil Meyerowitz Incorporated Supplies and built the business into a legacy that has spanned four generations of family members. His vision, hard work, and determination laid the foundation for the success his family enjoys today."
"Gil was proud of all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In a video made about the company, he is heard saying, "Usually in a family business, the second generation screws it up and the third generation abolishes it because they think they are entitled. My business is now in its fourth generation and these kids are working as hard as we did and have brought the company to such an unbelievable place." Gil's only wish was that he could have shown his own father how the business has flourished."
"Everyone who knew Gil loved him, as evidenced by the overwhelming amount of people who attended his funeral, even on Easter Sunday. Many shared stories of how Gil helped them when they were in need and how he did business on a handshake. He was a firm believer in trust and loyalty, and his relationships with his employees and customers were built on these principles."
"Gil Meyerowitz was a man of many accomplishments, but with two children, four grandchildren, and 11 grandchildren, Gil's greatest source of pride was his family."
